Open World Championship, Syndey, Australia, 1-6 January
European Championship, Stavoren, Netherlands, 16-24 July
Women's World Championship, Spain
Combination of auto-qualification and ranking series, with berths reserved for mixed and women's teams:
a) Auto-qualify winners of 3 regattas:
- North Americans
- Fall Equinox
- Columbus (American Y.C.)
"Winner" is top eligible American not already qualified at previous
auto-qualify regatta.
If winner declines berth, it "disappears," rather than reverting to
next finisher. (Example: Frank wins all 3 regattas; Sarah 2nd in all; Tom 3rd;
Fiona 4th. Sarah declines berth. Result is 2 berths, to Frank and Tom.)
b) Ranking series of 4 regattas:
- North Americans
- Fall Equinox
- Columbus (American Y.C.)
- Thompson
For berths not auto-qualified; count only eligible Americans; low-point scoring;
1 throwout if 4 regattas held.
c) "Three-thirds" allocation to reserve berths for mixed and women's
teams:
- 1/3 of berths go to mixed teams
- 1/3 go to all-women's teams
- 1/3 go to either
If mixed or women's teams compose fewer than 1/3, then remainder goes to other.
